Preventing Healthcare Associated Conditions (HACs) in Nursing Homes
- Module 1: Preventing and Controlling Infections (Part 1): This training focuses on the differentiation between long-term and short-term care in nursing homes and nursing home risks. Topics also include defining infection and describing how it is spread; the role of staff in preventing and controlling infections; and standard precautions such as hand and respiratory hygiene, cleaning, personal protective equipment, and respiratory hygiene.
- Module 2: Preventing and Controlling Infections (Part 2): This training focuses on the facts, symptoms, transmission, treatment and preventions of common infections, which include: Candida auris (C. auris), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), Clostridium Difficile (C. Diff), Catheter- Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) and Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI).
- Module 3: Surgical Site Infections, Falls and Pressure Sores: This training focuses on risk factors, prevention, and treatment of surgical site infections, falls and pressure sores. Participants will engage in demonstration activities and utilize case studies as learning tools.
- Module 4: Communication, Teamwork and Preventions of Health Care Associated Conditions: This training targets the interdisciplinary care team to work together to identify concrete measures to improve communication and teamwork for prevention of HACs. Training includes identifying the role of all team members and learning to use the “I’m Safe” checklist.
