Esta capacitación les proporciona a los participantes una mejor comprensión de la diferencia entre el duelo y la pérdida y de cómo usar las etapas de duelo (Stages of Grief) como herramienta. Los participantes aprenden sobre el dolor crónico y la fatiga por compasión, y el impacto que ambos pueden tener en los cuidadores, además de comprender cómo seguir haciendo su importante trabajo después de una pérdida. Los participantes recibirán recursos como habilidades de afrontamiento y recursos comunitarios adicionales. Se está desarrollando un posterior grupo de apoyo entre pares para ofrecer apoyo continuo.

Ruth Santana is a public health professional and currently works at Urban Health Plan, Inc. She creates and implements all of their wellness programs as well as their health career experiences. Ruth is an instructor and professor of community health, public health, social justice, health coaching and has more than 20 years of experience in health care management. Ruth obtained her Master of Public Health (MPH) from CUNY Lehman College and holds many certifications in worksite wellness, not for profit management, motivational interviewing, and health coaching.
Joe Simmons is a Professional Certified Coach specializing in workplace communication, leadership coaching, and behavior change. A member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), he trains interdisciplinary health care teams in eliciting and strengthening patients’ and clients’ personal motivation for self-management. Joe is a Mental Health First Aid Certified Trainer. He leads workshops in both English and Spanish.
Virginia Vasquez is a writer, multidisciplinary artist, educator, and collaborator. For over 7 years, she worked in student mental health services at Columbia University. She taught creative writing at the City College of New York, where she received her MFA. She is also a Mental Health First Aid certified trainer. Due to her upbringing in the South Bronx, Virginia is an advocate against systemic racial, economic, and social inequalities in communities of color.
Felix Lopez has worked in multicultural development, early childhood education, arts administration, museum studies, radio production, national community outreach, and clinical case coordination. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History and Chinese Language & Culture from the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor and is a recent graduate of Columbia University’s Narrative Medicine program. Felix is currently a Program Coordinator at Mount Sinai Hospital that focuses on HIV and STI prevention among Black and Brown queer youth. He is a certified Mental Health First Aid Facilitator.
