Electronic Medical Records Basics (EMR)

This training course will strengthen the knowledge and skills of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and nurses regarding the functionality of their facility’s electronic medical record (EMR) system. CNAs will receive information on how kiosk documentation differs from paper-based documentation. The training will also cover the basics, including security and HIPAA best practices; entering, saving and editing our assignments; using the “include previous shifts” functionality; searching for particular residents within one’s assignment and unit. For nurses, a significant portion of time will be devoted to effective documentation resident medication and treatment administrations. The training will the review how to access and utilize the medication administration record logs, document due versus overdue medication, make corrections to medication documentation errors and reconcile medication orders. Running reports on CNA completion of tasks will also be reviewed with nurses.
