Alzheimer’s / Dementia Care for Nursing Home Workers- Part 1 & Part 2

In this 8-hour course, participants will learn the basics of dementia care, including defining and delineating between the different types of Dementia as well as recognizing early signs and symptoms. This training will also address appropriate responses, a plan of action, specialized care, the effects of cultural values and the right of the Dementia Patient/Resident.

Participants will also explore ways to improve Dementia care through communication and support. This training includes therapeutic communication strategies and key words to use to mitigate negative behavior. Varying treatment modalities (art, music, dance), the effect of Sundowning, managing paranoia and late day confusions, assisting the wandering patient, recognizing signs, coping mechanisms and treatment options will be included. Participants will also learn about how to deal with burnout.
